VERDE AGUA | Theatrical costume
VERDE AGUA is a dramatic comedy that explores themes of environmental pollution, abuse of power, and feminism.
The play premiered at Teatro Border, the first sustainable theater in Argentina.
It was later performed in Uruguay, where I had the opportunity to participate in a conference at Teatro Solís, discussing the costume design created for the production.
As the costume designer, I handcrafted five dresses for the actresses, all in the same shade of green. The core concept was to use sustainable materials and low-waste techniques, creating the costumes entirely from textile waste sourced from the fashion industry.
The process began with an analysis of the play and its characters, leading to mood boards, actantial analysis, and initial sketches. This groundwork informed the final costume designs, detailed in renderings and technical sheets.
The next step involved sourcing textile waste by visiting two warehouses of Argentine fashion companies. Only scraps that were already green or light-colored were selected, as these could be dyed, painted, or printed in the required shade of green.
The last stage focused on joining fabric scraps to form larger pieces, providing enough material to sew the dresses.
