CRYSTALLINE | Costume design
CRYSTALLINE is a project inspired by Glaciology, a branch of geography and earth sciences that studies water in its solid state -hail, snow, frost, ice, glaciers.
As the designer, my approach focused on snowflakes and ice crystals, resulting in over 17 costumes. The collection is achromatic, with 90% of the designs in white and the remaining 10% in gray.
Key constants include symmetry, repeated shapes, translucent fabrics, and shoulder tension as a focal point. Modular lengths and gray accents in select pieces act as variables.
Textures were developed using techniques like screen printing, laser cutting, sublimation, silicone, and flocked vinyl. Due to the COVID-19 quarantine, these couldn’t be produced, so I created handmade textures to represent the concept.
The technical sheets served as essential guides throughout this process.
Photoshoot and video of the final garments from some of the designs. The prints were digitally added, as it wasn’t possible to produce them physically due to COVID.
By the end, some accessories were added, and a small capsule collection was requested and included in relation to the pandemic situation, all in line with the initial concept.
Note: Images feature real models and garments.
